I remember a protest on the Kop after Birmingham City’s loss to Portsmouth on February 1993.  The club was in the hands of the receivers following the financial collapse of the Kumars and the fans were getting impatient because it was taking a long time for it to be sold. Some of them stood on the Kop after the game and chanted, “Receivers out!”  I can remember thinking how illogical that was but how understandable.  The club was in a miserable state, the receivership had been dragging on for about three months and they wanted it to be over.  Continue reading


Scarf ladyOn Wednesday evening, before the Middlesbrough match, I got the chance to do something I’ve wanted to do for the last couple of years. I saw the scarf lady, said hello and gave her my All-we-care-about-is-BCFC scarf.  I noticed that the Birmingham Mail had got a picture of her in the crowd and was pleased to see one end of the scarf showing. I don’t know what her story is but, in her own way, she is a Birmingham City legend. Continue reading

No Epiphany

The Annual General Meeting of Birmingham International Holdings Limited took place on Tuesday January 6th, the feast of Epiphany. This is the day that the Church celebrates the arrival of the magi to worship the infant Jesus and the manifestation of the glory of God to the Gentiles. In a secular context an epiphany is a moment of sudden and great revelation.  Continue reading

Interesting times

It looks as though the next couple of weeks could be interesting for Birmingham City, both on and off the pitch. In tomorrow’s game, we will see how Rowett reacts to last weekend’s loss: who he puts in the team and how they play. I’d like to see Zigic in the squad and coming on as a sub. He would get a good reception: fans were singing his name at Blackpool and he wasn’t even there. Continue reading
