It’s Saturday, Birmingham City are playing at home and I’ll be going to St Andrew’s once more. It will be the sixth home game and Blues still haven’t won there this season. As always, I’ll be hoping for a win this time. Continue reading

Values
On Heritage Open Day, Bournville Junior School was one of the places that was open and I was able to visit the school I attended as a child. I saw my name written in a book recording when I had started and left the school and I walked around looking at displays and posters. The poster on values listed the values that I could remember being taught by that school and by my parents. Continue reading
Glad
I’m glad there’s a game to go to this evening. Watching a game is usually better than reading online articles that regurgitate what others have already written about what a mess the club is in and a possible 12-point deduction. Even watching our last home game against QPR, which was not very good, was better than reading some of the rubbish that gets circulated on social media. Continue reading
Late goals
Birmingham City players conceded two late goals in both games played on Saturday. It was disappointing but not devastating in the Under-23s game because Blues had already scored four goals and beat Colchester 4-2. Continue reading
Exceeding expectations
How fans react to the result of a game depends a lot on their expectations before it. I don’t think I was the only Birmingham City fan who felt fearful before our game with Swansea and that helped me to feel satisfied with the goalless draw. We played better, created more chances and should have won but we just couldn’t score. But it was the most entertaining goalless draw I’ve seen. Continue reading
Teamwork
Since hearing the news of senior staff departures, I’ve been thinking more about the Birmingham City staff team than the team on the pitch. The administrative staff team are just as vital as the players; without them games could not be played. Continue reading
Thoughts on the Norwich game
Norwich’s last-minute equaliser left me feeling very disappointed as I walked away from St Andrew’s on Saturday but I’m feeling better now I’ve calmed down a bit. We didn’t lose and Garry Monk is still with us. He has acknowledged that the club is facing adversity and said that his job is “to lead us through that and onto better and brighter days”. I think Birmingham City fans will respond to that kind of message. Continue reading
Ready?
I’m not sure I’m ready for this season to begin but I’m hoping that the Birmingham City players are. Garry Monk’s press conference helped to alleviate some of my anxiety. He seems to be able to find a positive aspect in every situation and I can understand why he can get a good response from players. Continue reading
Looking for a silver lining
I felt depressed when the club’s statement said the transfer embargo had not been lifted even though it was just confirming what I had thought for some time. And the post on almajir.net describes a sobering situation. I have been trying to cheer myself up by looking for some positives. Continue reading
Squad
I’ve just had a look at the players listed on the official Birmingham City site and compared them with the ones on my April cheat sheet. No new names have been added on the BCFC site but six are missing. I’ve put a comparison chart below to show which they are. Continue reading
Hong Kong
Hong Kong is an amazing kaleidoscope of tall buildings, mass transit trains, trams, buses, cars, handcarts and people. There are lots of people in a hurry, going places, but there are also small parks dotted around the city for those who want to pause and be refreshed. There’s food, glorious food including some I fancied, the papaya and red onion salad was a favourite, and food that I didn’t try such as seahorses. Continue reading
Elated and exhausted
It has been nearly a week since Birmingham City ended their season with a memorable win against Fulham. It was an incredible game, with a full St Andrew’s providing loud support from before kick off to the post-game players parade around the pitch. It was absolutely wonderful and I felt elated.
But I also felt exhausted, worn out by the rollercoaster emotions generated by an end-of-season escape from relegation. Continue reading
Football, life and death
At times like this, when Birmingham City is teetering just above the relegation zone, it can feel as though football is the most important thing in my life. But I’ve been reminded that it isn’t. Continue reading
Being part of the crowd
Saturday’s game against Sheffield United reminded me of our first home game of this season, against Bristol City. We went behind to an early goal, equalised before half time and Maghoma scored the winner. Continue reading
Academies
I don’t approve of a rapid turnover of footballs managers and felt doubtful about the appointment of Garry Monk. But he won me over when he talked about giving young players a chance and providing a pathway from the Academy to the first team. Continue reading
