Birmingham City players conceded two late goals in both games played on Saturday. It was disappointing but not devastating in the Under-23s game because Blues had already scored four goals and beat Colchester 4-2. Kyle McFarlane scored three of those goals and Richard Beale said he “took his chances well. He’s got lots of pace and he can finish, so I was really pleased for him.” I was glad to read that as I had thought McFarlane looked good but know I’m biased. I think players start looking good when they put on a Blues shirt.
Nottingham Forrest’s two late goals were devastating. We were still celebrating Che Adam’s goal when their first went in. Exaltation turned into apprehension. As we asked ourselves if we could concede another one, I think we all knew that we could and, of course, we did and ended up with one point instead of three. I’ve calmed down now and am trying to remember the positives. We scored two away goals, which doubled our goal tally for the season and we are still just above the relegation zone, not in it.
I don’t have any analysis or advice to offer. I know that I know less about football than Garry Monk does and I trust him. He seems to be doing a good job of lifting the morale of the team and that’s an important part of a manager’s job. He has also improved their performance on the pitch so I keep trusting that we will get a win soon.
